Frequently asked questions

The basics, without the guesswork

These answers reflect current product behavior and Beta plans. Details may evolve as testing progresses.

How does Nearby help me find players?

Nearby is intended to help you discover other pool players in your area. Busy players may remain visible, and availability is a discoverability preference—not the only indication of whether someone is currently in a match.

What happens after I challenge someone?

A challenge can be ready for action when both players are free. If either player is busy, it may wait until both are available again. A waiting challenge is not an urgent alert; it simply keeps the matchup in line for later.

What is the difference between rated and social play?

Rated competitive matches affect player rating. Social play is non-rated and does not affect competitive rating or rated history.

What match information can I review?

Players can review completed match information and confirmed results. People's Pool League does not currently promise rating graphs or historical rating-trend data.

How are pool venues added?

Players may submit a venue even when they are not physically onsite. Coordinates, when included, are optional and unverified hints; moderators or admins establish canonical venue information. Private or member clubs may be allowed, but private residences are not valid venues. Ordinary player submissions do not set Google Place IDs; moderators or admins may use Google Places during verification.

What does blocking another player do?

Blocking removes the affected players from Nearby and prevents new challenges between them. The experience is designed not to reveal who initiated a block.

General Beta troubleshooting

A few safe things to check first

Because the app is still being prepared for Beta, these are general starting points—not a guarantee that every feature is available or production-ready.
  1. 1

    Check for an update

Make sure you are using the most current Beta build available to you.

  2. 2

    Confirm connectivity

Verify that your device has a stable internet connection before trying again.

  3. 3

    Refresh and reopen

Refresh the current view or close and reopen the app when a screen appears stale.

  4. 4

    Review location permission

If Nearby cannot determine your location, confirm that location permission is enabled.

  5. 5

    Review notification permission

If you expect push notifications, confirm that notifications are allowed for the app.
